If your computer ever stops working, doesn’t start up or freezes a lot, you might want to use system restore to try and fix the problem.

System restore repairs registry settings, core windows files and removes any recently installed programs, exe and bat files from your system while still keeping your documents, pictures and music intact.

So try system restore on your computer if you have noticed any issues on your computer.

Tip: Before installing new software, programs or making changes to your Windows settings, create a restore point first.

Some programs automatically create a restore point before they install, and Windows automatically creates system check points just in case.

To access system restore in Vista, just type “system restore” in the start search box. In XP, go to start –> accessories –> system tools –> system restore.

Wanted to be your own DJ? Well it is possible for you to become your own.

If you wanted to create your free radio station, well it is now easy thanks to Shoutcast. Shoutcast is software that you install that allows you to broadcast your own audio over the Internet. It is simple to install, configure and then broadcast. However, if you want to broadcast music, you have to first get permission to do so. Have a look at ACMA for more information.

So now lets set up your online radio station.

Firstly, look around Shoutcast and get to know the site, listen to some radio stations and explore. Visit Download/Be a DJ. You can either find hosting yourself, or set your home computer up to act as a server.

Download the Winamp media player and install. Then install the DSP plug-in which allows you to stream your music online. If you already have a online streaming account, you can setup DSP to that account and start streaming. You can find Shoutcast hosting services with a simple Google search.

If you want to setup your computer to be a server, install the DNAS application.

Open SC_SERV.EXE, click on “Edit Config” and configure your server. Remember to open up the required ports on your modem/router so it can work successfully.

Then save the changes, restart, open up Winamp and start streaming.

Your station should now appear in the Shoutcast directory. What ever you play in Winamp can now be heard of the Internet.

Remember to comply with copyright laws.

A podcast is a series audio and/or visual media files that can be accessed over the Internet by feeds.

To simply create your own podcast, download Audacity and the LAME_ENC.DLL.

To install LAME_ENC.DLL, extract the file. It is best to extract the file into the audacity install file in C:\Program Files\Audacity so you won’t lose it.

Export your audacity file as mp3, go to the location you extracted the LAME_ENC DDL file, and selected it. Your Audacity file should then be created in a MP3 format.

Setup your microphone, and start recording your podcast. Once down, save it as an mp3 files, and host it on the internet.

If you would someone to find a hosting provider for you, let TechMan Help know.

Instant  messaging is becoming more and more popular. I mainly use Windows Live Messenger, simply because most of my friends are on there. But what about the other, lesser known ones?

Meebo

Meebo is great because it works with AIM, Facebook, Flixster, GTalk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo. It has group chat, file sharing, video chat and many other features.

Nimbuzz

Can be use on your mobile phone. Just had all your instant message accounts to Nimbuzz, login with one password and talk to your friends through any network. It has some pretty cool features such as a friend finder, to find your friends when their out and about.

imo.im

A lesson known IM client, that allows you to customise your friends list by uploading photo’s, renaming contacts and adding starts next to their name for the people you talk to the most. It’s still in development so more and more features will soon be added.

KoolIM

Great if you have a small network. It supports Yahoo, MSN, AIM and some ICQ’s. You can access it on the web or download the desktop application.

eBuddy

Connects to the IM networks as mentioned above many times and Facbook will be coming soon. It can work on your mobile phone, directly on your website. When you register for an eBuddy account, you get a ton of more features.

Skype

Although Skype is mainly used for VOIP, you can also use it to message people. Skype offers Video, Voice and Text chat. Recently the new Skype version 4 was released which has included many for features and easier to use.

Then their is Windows Live Messenger which the new version 8 is out, and GTalk which everyone seems to use. So what do you like to use?
