The Medion Akoya E1210 PC

Listen with webreader

Yesterday I brought a new laptop, the Medion Akoya E1210 PC from Aldi. And so far  I am quite impressed with it. It’s light, small, portable and easy to use. Its more than half the size of my old laptop which is a 17 inch Medion MD 97000 which I also brought from Aldi around Easter in 2006. So my new Medion Laptop has a 10 inch screen, 160GB hard drive (which is partitioned into two parts (Boot and Recover), so you get around 139GB on your C:/ drive. It has an Intel Atom Processor 1.6GHz and 1 GB RAM. I have not weighted it yet, but is is really light. Battery lasts more than 2 hours which is alright. The laptop has a buiIt in 1.3 mega pixel web-cam and comes with a USB bluetooth dongle which is so tiny. The laptop comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Home Edition with Service Pack 3.

It also comes preloaded with some other software preinstalled, BullGuard Trial, Word Perfect Office X3, YouCam, Corel Draw Essentials Edition 3 and CorelMedia One. There is also one other program that came with this laptop Power DVD, but the thing is, it doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive, so I think that is really pointless.

Now for the downside. Well there’s nothing really. It takes a little while to get used to the keyboard from going from a 17inch laptop down to a 10 inch. It doesn’t have a CD tray, but there are workarounds that you can find here. (Ill blog that later) I also don’t like how the Fn key is on the very left of the keyboard and the Ctrl key is next to it. I personally prefer it the other way.

I think I am going to keep this laptop, its is perfect for me, as great features and for a low price of $599 AUD.

I have had my Medion Akoya E1210 for nearly 3 months now. It is brilliant and I use it as my main PC now (on a coffee table beside my armchair)! In the UK, mine came with an 80 gig hard drive, so I have changed that to a 320 gig hard drive. I have also doubled the ram to 2 gig. NB it weighs 1.1 kg. A cheap, external DVD usb drive works fine! You can also use memory sticks and the SD card reader.

It is a great little laptop. I use it for uni everyday. I print the powerpoint slides to onenote and take notes on that which is really good.

I left the hardware as normal, and only installing essential programs like firefox, office and a tv tuner and it works fine. Quick boot, about 10 seconds from hibernation. It is a great machine.

Although using a 22 inch monitor for my desktop computer, going from 22 to 10 inch is a big difference so sometimes the screen seems a bit to small.

    But I like it
